Tonight's Out-FM show will be devoted to exploring the experience of LGBTQIA youth in the New York Foster Care system.
The Administration for Child Services was recently the subject of a long article in the New York Times discussing the release of a study on the children who are clients of the child welfare system in New York. The Administration for Child Services (ACS) study found that more than a third of the clients in the 2019 study were LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex or Asexual.
It further revealed that 58% were black, 19.3 were more than one race, 13% white and 8% were something else.

We'll be hearing from trans activists, formerly in this system including Vanessa Fuentes, and Mia Aub, who discuss their mixed experiences in the system.

We'll also hear from Denise Hinds of Good Shepherd Services, a Brooklyn-based child welfare organization and Denise Brogan Kator, interim CEO of Family Equality. They discuss the roll-back of Obama era reforms by the Trump administration. The reforms permitted studies of LGBTQIA youth which coud collect valuable data to provide better services to the youth. They discuss the roll of racism in disproportionate removal of children of color from homes. Also they discuss the problems finding foster parents that are accepting of LGBTQIA youth.
