Brian Romero once served as chief of staff to New York State Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas, who represents the 34th Assembly district, which includes the neighborhoods of Astoria, Corona, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights and Woodside in western Queens; González-Rojas is vacating the seat to challenge Jessica Ramos, who represents the 13th Senate district in western Queens; now the openly gay Romero is running to replace González-Rojas; his primary opponent Rosa Sánchez is an associate of Hiram Monserrate, who is also challenging Ramos for the seat he held in 2009-2010 before being expelled from the Senate by his colleagues. Out-FM's Pauline Park interviewed Romero about his personal history and his candidacy.
