Ricardo Julio SanchezIn September Venezuela along with most countries in the world, sent high level delegations to the UN for the General Assembly. Among the leaders present was President Nicholas Maduro of Venezuela. Venezuela faces a political situation much like that of the socialist government in Chile in 1972, Nicaragua in the 1980s and other progressive governments being attacked by the US for operating in their people’s interests rather than US corporate interests. The corporate media has done a massive job of attacking the progressive government there. Out-FM co-host John Riley interviewed Ricardo Julio Sanchez, who is a representative of a consortium of Venezuelan LGBT activist groups that came with the Venezuelian delegation. John asked him about those groups, the impact of the embargo on people as a whole and people with HIV/AIDS and about their healthcare system. Thanks to WBAI Producer William Camacaro for assistance setting up the interview and vice-minister of foreign relations for North America Carlos Ron Martinez, for translating this interview. Click here for Part 1 There are two versions of this interview originally divided into two parts, part 2 has some repetition. If you haven't heard part 1, you can listen to the full version above.
