Solidarity Statement on Sexual Harrassment
- Details

Pull the plug on Lopate
We join in with many other producers here at WBAI to condemn the recent hiring of Leonard Lopate, a former WNYC host who was terminated for reasons including mulitple allegations by women regarding sexual harassment in the workplace. We offer a message of solidarity to the women of WNYC, the women of WBAI as well as the producers that made the very difficult decision to walk away. We call on WBAI and Pacifica to listen to the women and to hold themselves accountable to their social justice mission. It is not too late to stand on the right side of history, to publicly renounce harassment in all of its forms, and to refuse to give a public platform to known abusers.

Dean Spade
Professor Dean Spade, discusses the institutional forces that push movements for social change towards meaningless or even harmful reforms as they become mainstreamized. The phenomena is not just in the LGBT movement, but also throughout the left. He stresses the need for discernment as we approach organizing to avoid falling into the trap.
