Tune to Out-FM on Tuesday, Oct 16th from 8-10pm on WBAI/NY 99.5FM or wbai.org for a special on Scientology, how it uses unethical means to enforse their will on those that oppose them and it’s anti-gay policy with a special focus on former high ranking leader Michelle LeClair, a lesbian.

We'll present excerpts from the 3 time Emmy winning documentarly Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief. The film focuses on a number of former Scientology executives that left the Church for various reasons. It details the unethical methods of the group which range from using “audit” sessions against a person, if they ran afoul of the church hierarchy. Auditing is a religious practice similar to confession. The church also employs its congregants as snitches to spy on other church members and write up their “violations”.  Additionally they’ve been show to engage in illegal practices in harassing former members, especially those that speak out against the Church of Scientology.

Haneen Maikey

First, Out-FM producer Brad Taylor interviews Haneen Maikey, a Palestinian organizer of alQaws, which runs 7 LGBT community centers in Palestine. The centers train youth in uses of new media, helps its users navigate the rigors of Israeli occupation, campaigns against violence against LGBT people, and are building to a future without patriarchy or colonialism.

In our 2nd segment, we’ll have another installment in our Queerly Defiant series: a presentation by Maya Little, a Black queer woman and PhD student at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She’s facing criminal and university charges for throwing red paint and her own blood on a Confederate statue ("Silent Sam") as part of her leadership of the campus movement against white supremacy. This was the statue that was later toppled by student activists.

This segment is another in our continuing series spotlighting courageous LGBTQ activists who took great risks to fight for radical change, not necessarily including the issue of gay rights, and faced or served prison time as a result -- and in some cases, became political prisoners.
