Longtime AIDS Activist Nanette Kazaoka Dies

Nanette Kazaoka, former ACT UP Treasurer and direct action activist, has died at age 82. We'll play the obituary of Nanette aired by Gay USA on Free Speech TV. Her 2014 interview with the ACT UP Oral History Project is here.

Pictured above left to right: Maxine Wolfe, Nanette Kazaoka (center), and Eustascia Smith at ACT UP's 1997 Crash the Market March and mass civil disobedience on Wall Street). At the Crash the Market Demonstration, the 3 women were followed by other activists carrying a coffin behind them, protesting the sky-high prices of AIDS drugs which were causing many to die because of lack of affordability, as well as demanding the pharmaceutical Industry test AIDS drugs in women, which wasn't happening at the time.

In the photo below, in 2004 AIDS activists were pressuring the George W. Bush Administration to enable affordable access to AIDS drugs to Africa and the developing world by fully funding the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, and by dropping the odious debt burden imposed by the IMF and World Bank on poor and middle-income countries.

Queer Palestinian and Lebanese Responses to the Gaza Genocide and the Lebanon War

Apartheid Israel is currently pursuing genocide in Gaza and has launched a new war in Lebanon yet mainstream media rarely include authentic Palestinian perspectives let alone center the perspectives of LGBT/queer Palestinians or Jewish Americans who support justice for Palestine. On today's show, we speak with Mohammad Hamad, an openly gay Palestinian activist based in New York City; and with Afeef Nassouli, an openly gay Lebanese American who has family in Beirut.
