Tribute to Latino AIDS Activist Jairo Pedraza

In this segment, Bob Lederer of Out-FM (and an ACT UP veteran) speaks with longtime AIDS activist Alfredo González. Alfredo pays tribute to his life partner, Jairo Pedraza, a Colombian immigrant who passed on in June 2025. In the 1990s, Jairo was a key leader of ACT UP/New York's Latina/Latino Caucus and a spearhead of NYC initiatives to support immigrants -- particularly those from Latin America -- living with HIV. He also became a leader of people with HIV worldwide, with a strong commitment to achieving treatment access to those in the Global South.

Tribute to Trans Visionary Miss Major

Today we memorialize Miss Major Griffin Gracy, the Stonewall veteran who became a mother figure to countless trans and queer people over the course of her nearly 80 years on earth. She often credited Attica Rebellion organizer Big Black -- whom she met in the late 70s when they were incarcerated together -- with being her mentor as an organizer.

Major's collaborator Toshio Meronek co-authored her memoir Miss Major Speaks: Conversations with a Black Trans Revolutionary (Verso) and hosts the podcast Sad Francisco. Toshio has kindly allowed us to rebroadcast their recent podcast tribute to Miss Major.
