Tonight we have a short reading by Rev. Liz Edman from her book “Queer Virtue”. Liz Edman is an out queer Episcopal Priest writing and working in the area of queer theology. Rev Edman proffers a rather interesting and unique perspective on the intersection and contribution of the queer community and Christian practice.

Remembering Marielle Franco: Solidarity with politically persecuted activists in Brazil and the U.S.
Marielle Franco was a black, queer* woman who was a socialist, feminist elected to be a Rio de Jainero city council member. She was assassinated 3 years ago in March 2018. Glenn Greenwald, a gay journalist, listed what he referred to as the "most important subjects to cover" regarding Franco's assassination stating:
Her relentless and brave activism against the most lawless police battalions, her opposition to military intervention, and, most threateningly of all, her growing power as a black, gay woman from the favela, a Brazilian shanty town, seeking not to join Brazil’s power structure, but to subvert it.[41]
The event was organized by: The People’s Forum & Defend Democracy in Brazil NY chapter. The speakers will review what was behind the brutal and yet unsolved assassination of Councilwoman Franco and discuss the ongoing violent political persecution of activists fighting for social justice in Brazil and in the United States. Jacqueline Woodson: A Reading and Conversation
Jacqueline Woodson, is an award-winning author of Brown Girl Dreaming (winner of the National Book Award and a Newbery Honor), Another Brooklyn, and most recently, the New York Times bestseller, Red at the Bone. Woodson, a 2020 MacArthur “genius award” winner, will read from Another Brooklyn and join in a conversation about her work and life with Dána-Ain Davis, professor of anthropology and director of the Center for the Study of Women and Society at The Graduate Center and professor of urban studies at Queens College, CUNY.
